An extremely rare example of tramp art. This miniature chip-carved doll's chair is actually also a child's comfort rattle. During its construction in the 19th century, some of the chair struts had been hollowed-out and filled with glass beads, so that it was able to make a sound when shaken. An unusual piece of folk art. Original oxidized paint surface of black over an earlier dark green. A small amount of damage to one of the front forward-protruding struts. A unique piece!
