A late Victorian/early Edwardian carved wood toy horse, with original gessoed and painted finish. This piece has a lovely naive quality to it. The horse's pose is unusual - it has been modelled with one hoof raised off the ground, as though the horse were in mid-trot. Remnants of original harness still attached. It would originally have had a set of wheels, so that it could be used as a child's pull-along toy, but now works well simply as a decorative object.
